The Human Resources Division is located within the Registrar's Office. The Human Resources Officer is responsible for all matters regarding staff leave, staff labour relations, staff grievance matters, payroll advice, recruitment and appointment of permanent and contracted members of staff.

Catholic Social Thought forms an integral part of how human resources are managed at St Augustine College. It is evident also in the vision, curriculum, research and publications at this catholic university. Its principles are embedded in our Mission and Vision Statement, and are incorporated into our Human Resource Philosophy. The curriculum for our MPhil degrees includes a number of modules which incorporate the principles of Catholic Social Thought and several of our students have done both Masters and Doctoral research using Catholic Social Thought as a basis or as an ethical framework. In addition, a number of our academic staff, both full-time and adjunct, as well as students, have published articles and delivered academic papers at conferences which incorporated the principles of Catholic Social Thought. Our own journal, St Augustine Papers also publishes such articles. Catholic Social Thought is not a handbook for solving social questions, nor a convenient tick list of rules and principles for decision making. Its aim is "…a system of order, “based as it must be, on truth, tempered by justice, motivated by mutual love and holding fast to the practice of freedom" (Pacem in Terris 1963:n.149 cited in Höffner 1983:71).
Its core principles, are found in papal encyclicals dating from Rerum Novarum (1891) forward and in various pontifical and Bishops’ letters and addresses. These principles are:
The dignity of the human person
The common good
Solidarity (including stewardship and the common destiny of all goods)
Subsidiarity
Justice (including political and economic rights)
Option for the poor
It is these principles which are integral to our ethos and foundational to who we are and what we do at this university.
