A Word of Welcome
At St Augustine College we pride ourselves on the delivery of high quality programmes, an excellent range of academics from diverse backgrounds in terms of race, gender, culture and creed, and a student body that receives development not only in the intellectual form, but also in terms of the whole person.
The College has expanded enormously over the last ten years and in 2009 celebrated the first decade of its life; a truly South African institution and the first privately developed and accredited higher education institution in South Africa to offer degrees up to DPhil level. Although we have traditionally offered only postgraduate qualifications, we have in the recent past received accreditation from the National Department of Education for our new undergraduate offerings, and, in 2009 we received our first cohort of undergraduate students for the BCom and BTh respectively. In 2010 we received our first cohort of undergraduate students for the BA.
In addition to a strong and widely recognised reputation for our work in ethics, political leadership, and philosophy, the College is structured into three schools: the School of Theology, School of Humanities and Education, and the School of Commerce, Philosophy, and Applied Ethics, all of which participate in our undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. The College is also very involved in community development through its short courses such as 2000 Years of Church History, Bible in a Year, the Certificate in Political Leadership, and the course in Catechetical Leadership. The certificates and short courses are sometimes offered off-site.
Students, whether those enrolled formally for our degree and certificate programmes, or our short courses, are welcome always in the College, and a close relationship, because of our insistence on small groups, between faculty and students is a feature of the teaching and learning experience here. The College offers a range of bursaries and other forms of support and is an ideal venue for conferences and events because of state-of-the-art lecture and teaching facilities, its on site-accommodation and catering facilities, and its atmosphere of learning and culture.
Whilst catholic in ethos and spirit, the College welcomes students and academics from a wide variety of faith backgrounds, and this is also represented in its teaching faculty. St Augustine's offers an intellectual and spiritual home to those associated with it, and I would like to extend a very warm welcome to visitors and encourage you to contact us.
