Advanced Certificate in Education ACE (Religious and Values Education) PDF Print E-mail

The Advanced Certificate in Education (or ACE) (Religious & Values Education) is offered at NQF level 6 with 120 credits. It is intended for educators who wish to specialise in Religious Education and Studentsb.jpgwho already hold a four-year teaching degree at NQF level 6 or equivalent or a three-year professional teacher education qualification approved by the national Department of Education at (REQV level 13). Note: If an applicant has already got credit for 2 or 3 years of Biblical Studies in his or her first qualification, he or she will not received recognition by the national Department of Education of the ACE (Religious & Values Education) for employment purposes.

Syllabus for the ACE

ACEC101 CATHOLIC FAITH AND PRACTICE
Students gain familiarity with the Catholic tradition and develop ways of dealing with it in the classroom through engagement with a range of curriculum processes.

(Note: This module is designed specifically for teachers in Catholic schools but appropriate modifications will be made for participants from other schools that have a religious character)

ACEC102 CURRICULUM OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
The purpose of this module is to get a comprehensive and critical appreciation of the school-based multi-process religious education curriculum.

ACEC103 FOUNDATIONS OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Introduction to the basic questions that concern the establishment of religious education as a dimension of the school curriculum. The questions are treated from an historical perspective

ACEC104 THE CLASSROOM
The student gains a clear understanding of the teaching and learning process from the perspective of religious education and how to manage it in the classroom environment.

ACEC105 THE LEARNER
The student gains a knowledge and appreciation of how learners develop in many different contexts and milieus. They learn how to make space for this knowledge in the classroom.

ACEC106 THE PRACTICE
Students demonstrate their understanding and competence as religious educators in an actual situation.

ACEC107 THE SCHOOL
This module discusses Issues regarding religion and religious education in the context of the whole school.

ACEC108 THE TEACHER
The student gains an understanding and appreciation of how the Catholic tradition contributes to the holistic growth of the person within community and society. Again, the student develops further ways of dealing with the curriculum processes in the classroom
