In recognition of the expansion of the College to include the offering of undergraduate degrees, accommodation, and the consequent presence of day students and resident students on campus, the College has an Office for Student Development.
Vision of the Student Development Office (SDO):
1) to provide students with support services (financial aid, health and wellness, spiritual and psychological guidance) and opportunities for development and recreation,
2) and to provide a formalized forum in which to interact with the College and each other concerning issues of importance to students;
3) to be the means by which the Mission and Vision of the College, in relation to the dignity of the person, is enhanced and communicated though interaction, activities, and structures.
The Student Development Office falls within the Registrars Office, and consists of:
a) The College Chaplaincy (consisting of Dr Frahm-Arp, Dr Rowe, Dr Moss, Fr McCabe, Dr van Heerden). The Chair of the College Chaplaincy is Dr Moss who will convene meetings of the chaplaincy as and when necessary;
b) The Student Counselor (Ms Vuyo Temba: pictured above right) (upstairs office, near the President);
c) The College Physicians: Dr Jimmy John – Catholic Doctor from Medicross Melville (011) 482-2291 or (082) 489 0400.

The Student Development Office offers, in addition to the spiritual and psychological counseling services, offered in a-c above, the following opportunities for development and engagement:
d) A Student Forum Hour which is particular to all residential students, but open to others as well, and will be held every week and facilitated by a member of the College Chaplaincy.
i) Attendance by students at this hour is encouraged and may be required;
ii) The Agenda for this hour is determined by students in consultation with the Chaplains who facilitate the meetings.
e) A Reflection Day: this a day set aside from scheduled teaching for students to engage with issues pertinent to their development as identified by the College Chaplaincy and by students themselves. This will be scheduled by the Registrar and will occur at least once per semester.
Also forming part of the Student Development Office is:
f) An elected student from among the resident students known as the Senior Student;
g) An appointed Residence Officer (from among the students) with authority to manage student life in residence in terms of the St Augustine College Residential Rules;
h) And the elected Student Representative as determined by the Statutes.
i) The Senior Student and the Residence Officer will liaise frequently with the Facilities Manager and the Proctor.
The concept of a Senior Student is that this person is elected by students to
j) represent them to the College management when necessary, and to assist the Residence Officer in managing student life on campus. The Senior Student will have authority over students to ensure that life on campus is well regulated, students respect each other’s needs and space, and to liaise with management concerning student needs;
k) possess authority to impose sanctions on students ranging from community service to small fines, and to report on serious transgressions or disputes to the College Proctor;
l) represent students, should this be required, at Disciplinary Tribunals convened by the Proctor;
m) support the Residence Officer in relation to the after-hours monitoring of College facilities for the use of students.
The concept of a Residence Officer is that this person is appointed by the College to:
n) Ensure the monitoring and implementation of the St Augustine College Residential Rules;
o) The Residence Officer will have authority to impose sanctions on students ranging from community service to small fines, and to report on serious transgressions or disputes to the College Proctor;
p) The Residence Officer will have the responsibility of making available after-hours use of the Library and the Computing Facilities, and will have authority to bar students from library of computing centre facilities should their behavior interfere with other students or the pursuit of studies, research associated with their degrees.
