Welcome to St Augustine College

We are big enough to make a difference and small enough to care about all our students.

Our aim is to be a leading African institution of higher learning in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition promoting ethical leadership, dignity of the human person, and the common good.

We are committed to small lecture classes and giving our students individual attention. Our fees are comparable to those at the state universities.

Training Programme on Civilian Peacebuilding Capacity

  • Location Johannesburg (South Africa)
  • Dates June 23-27, 2014
  • Training hours 35
  • Participant number Max 30
  • Teaching language English

This five-day course aims at the formation of civilian peacekeepers in non-violent approaches. Participants will be enabled to contribute to conflict transformation and peace-building in a variety of contexts and to better understand the role of the civilian component of Peacebuilding Operations deployed by the United Nations and Regional Organizations (AU, ECOWAS, SADC, etc). The course emphasises the need for developing reflective and critical capacities of participants. It does this by drawing the attention to core values that inform and motivate peace-building activities (i.e. human dignity and common good) and providing the conceptual frameworks that guide critical reflection. The training course is co-organised by St. Augustine College of South Africa and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. Read more...

BA(Hons) in Peace Studies

On Monday 24 March 2014 the teaching programme for the new degree offered at St Augustine's – BA(Hons) in Peace Studies – was inaugurated. We welcomed 9 students from different parts of Africa to Johannesburg. For the next two weeks they will be attending full-day courses at the College, and then they will continue to work on their assignments and research projects until the end of the year. The coordinator of the programme, Dr Mulanda Juma, spent many evenings and weekends in his office making sure that everything was ready for the launching of this new degree. The learners will acquire skills in theoretical and practical conflict resolution, social entrepreneurship, community reconstruction, early warning and responses in conflict situations, etc. We wish both the students and the lecturers a lot of energy for this time of intense engagement with the crucial challenges related to human dignity, common good, and peace-building!
